Abstract
The research is aimed to know how far the English fourth students’ semester of IKIP PGRI Semarang in the academic year 2012/2013 have an ability to understand the gender issue through Anna and the King movie. The method used in this research is descriptive analytic. Gender approach used to analyze the initiation of gender awareness of the students’ through the movie Anna and the King, and focus group discussion (FGD) technique used to measure the students’ understanding in comprehend the movie, whether any significant different with or without using FGD technique during the research. The result of this research are first, most of the sudents can understand the gender issues which shown in the movie. Second, most of the students do not know that there is a gender issue in the movie. Third, all of comprehend the literary work easily. Keywords: gender issue, focus group discussion.
