Abstract

Abstract This study aims at finding out the students' tendency in producing unified and coherent paragraph and to find out the realization of the students' paragraph in reaching unity and coherence. in conducting the research, descriptive qualitative is applied. The object of this study is descriptive paragraph written by students of third semester. twenty four descriptive paragraph have been taken as sample. The instrument used in this research is essay test. Documentation is used to collect the data. The data are analyzed using the unity and coherence qualifications included the repetition of key noun, the use of pronoun, the use of transition signals,and the use of logical order of spatial ordering. This study can be concluded that mostly the students produce not completely interrelated paragraph. it reached 50% or 12 texts. the second produced by the students is interrelated. It reached 29.16% or 7 texts, and the last is not interrelated. it reached 5 texts or 20.8%. keyword : descriptive paragraph, unity, coherence
