Abstract

The study aims at finding out the dominance and the realization of the Process, Participant, and Circumstance in the Spoof texts written by fourth semester students of English Department of IKIP PGRI Semarang enrolling the subject of Writing 3. In conducting the research, descriptive qualitative is used in this study because it just collects the data and writes the conclusion based on the analysis of the data. The object of this study is the spoof texts written by the students of fourth semester. Twenty spoof texts have been taken as sample. Unit of analysis of this study is clause. This study uses human instrument. To collect the data, documentation method is applied. The technique to analyze the data are: reading those twenty spoof texts thoroughly, identifying clauses of ideational meaning of spoof text, analyzing the clauses in the case of process, participant, and circumstance, finding the dominant of the transitivity (process, participant, and circumstance). The result of this study is presented based on the research findings. The ideational meaning of spoof text is realized by participant, process and circumstance. The dominant process employed in the twenty spoof texts is material process (56.7%); it represents actions and events to construe the story line. The participants, which are mostly used, are actor (31.6%) and goal (26.7%). It describes what can happen and what can be done to the characters of the story line. Circumstance of location of both place and time is dominantly used in the texts. It concentrates actions or events in time and place noting when and where the actions take place. Finally, some suggestions are (1) The result of this research can be used by the students to enhance their deep understanding about metafunction especially ideational meaning and its transitivity system, (2) The result of this research can be used by the lectures as an additional reference in teaching functional English Grammar especially ideational meaning, (3) The result of this research can be used by the readers for studying functional grammar and also for the reference to the other researcher with conducting a review of new conducted research
